Innovative catalytic methods for selective natural gas partial oxydation to oxygenated products (methanol, formaldehyde) of higher added value

Cel

One of the goals outlined in the original programme was to define the reaction pathways of the partial oxidation of natural gas on oxide and membrane catalysts.

The earlier works of T. Vidoczy and coworkers addressed the problem of generating a set of elementary reactions (called the possible mechanism), reducing this set using general chemical principles (resulting in a reduced possible mechanism), constructing the reaction networks corresponding to the mechanism, and analyzing the rates of transformation of species resulting in the main contributory mechanism.
Their approach is highly insensitive towards the overall reaction studies (nevertheless one of their examples treated was the non-catalytic partial oxidation of methane) and extreme care is taken to minimize the subjective elements of the treatment.
Thus this approach seems very promising in establishing the detailed mechanism of the reaction studied according to the original programme. The result of the work under this additional proposal would help the fulfillment of the objectives of the original programme, especially with respect to the planning of experiments/catalysts at a later stage.
The timing of the additional proposal suits well the milestones of the running original programme, the cooperation between the three groups can be organized smoothly and efficiently.
