Objetivo The objective of the project is to study the influence of policy instruments and other factors that have produced "success cases" in pollution reduction. For Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands case studies will be made of selected companies which have tackled and solved environmental problems. For countries making a transition to a market economy, however, additional research is required that covers more fundamental issues related to the environmental impact of industrial activities. In Poland, there are several examples of succesful implementation of pollution control measures that have led to reductions in the negative environmental impacts of companies' activities. This project will analyze the possibilities of, and preconditions for, improved dissemination of environmentally protective measures within companies in Poland. The research will include studies of existing environmental policies in order to raise their improvement in the future. In Latvia a detailed screening will gather data concerning the environmental impact of 50-70 small and medium size enterprises representing the main branches of industrial production.
