Three dimensional seismic physical modelling

Obiettivo

To investigate seismic data acquisition, processing and interpretation in order to improve the three dimensional imaging and characterization of the subsurface.

The proposed project includes two complementary approaches.

1) A new generation of seismic physical models using laser technologies which would allow complete 3D modelling and 3-component recording and from a more global point of view more reliable simulations of seismic prospecting experiment in the laboratory. The work programme of this sub-project includes three tasks:

(i) the finalization of a broad frequency band laser interferometer point receiver allowing 3D vibration recording,
(ii) the finalization of a broad frequency band point source,
(iii) the performance of propagation experiments, first on simple models allowing the comparison with numerical methods and then with more sophisticated media of propagation.

2) A linearized elastic inversion method of prestack reflected waves for nearly horizontal layers but with possible lateral variations of the elastic parameters. The work program of this sub-project includes four tasks:

(i) the analysis and the implementation of a linearized elastic inversion method of pre-stacked reflected waves for horizontal reference media,
(ii) the analysis and the implementation of a linearized elastic inversion method of pre-stack reflected waves for smoothly varying reference media,
(iii) the analysis of the a priori information and evaluation of its impact in the outcome of the inversion procedures,
(iv) the tests on synthetic and field data.
