Climate changes in Europe during the last two climatic cycles with emphasis on temperate post optimum evolution and entering into glaciation

Objectif

The integration of three polish teams, an Estonian team and a Romanian team to the EV5VCT920133 project responds to two objectives : 1. to extend the area of competencies of the initial group by the adjunction of specialties that are well developed within the new teams. It is the case in particular with palaeobiology, in which research field poland has long been a leader, and with the acquisition of climatic proxy data.
2: Thanks to accelerated compilation or eventually acquisition of palaeobiological proxy data, to promote quantitative reconstructions of palaeobioms and palaeoclimates at the continental scale and enable comparisons between western and central Europe that will constitute a key for the G.C.M. development.
The first subproposal offers a unique opportunity to apply a thorough palaeoecological study to new cores from the famous La Grande pile site (pollen, plant macrofossil remains, insects, diatoms, cladocera) and develop in parallel transfer functions for each group of organisms. The second proposal well contribute to the compilation of the exceptional set of pollen and plant macrofossil data available for the two previous interglacials in poland and to their use for climate reconstructions.
The third proposal will experiment, from several Proxy data covering the last 15 000 years, a model of climatic influence of the Baltic Sea upon the continent at a meso-scale.
The fourth proposal intends to provide the necessary set of pollen Proxy data which constitutes a prerequisite to any climate reconstruction. The fifth proposal represents an attempt to link climate proxy data provided by the speleothems geochemistry with data provided by palaeobiological indicators which constitute the primary approach.
