Cel The objectives of this project are to expand and extend the access of the Association of "Laser Facilities for Europea",comprised of ULF in Crete and LENS at Firenze, to scientists and young researchers from Central and Eastern European countries. The Facilities provide the state-of-the-art laser instrumentation for supporting high-quality basic research and technological know-how transfer. The present project aims at making available the capabilities of the two facilities to Eastern-European scientists in a concerted and coherent manner. The availability of the Facilities to Central and Eastern European countries user groups will catalyse their participation to other R&D projects within the EC, aiming to assist in the integration of Central and Eastern European researchers in European programs. It will also stimulate collaborative projects and the transfer of managerial know-how for the realisation of R&D programs. Relying on its strategic location, this Association of Laser Facilities is also expected to facilitate the intereace of the existing expertise from Central and Eastern European scientific community towards the strengthening of the European competitiveness, based on an optimum and cost effective utilization of the allocated resources. Finally, it will emphasize the training of young researchers into modern laser technology and instrumentation, focusing on the important aspects of industrial applications. The above activities are expected to promote the issue of cohesion within the enlarged Europe.
