Objetivo This proposal is concerned with the accurate calibration of antenna factors for broadband antennas used in EMC conformance testing over the frequency range 30 Mhz to 1 Ghz. It is widely known that radiated emission measurements have uncertainties of several decibels giving poor repeatability. A large percentage of this is attributed to the uncertainty of antenna factors. This results in manufacturers over-engineering the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) aspects of equipment to meet the specification limits, therefore increasing manufacturing costs to the Community. The introduction of the EC EMC Directive 89/336 led to test laboratories requiring traceability to national standards with reduced levels of uncertainty. The objective of the project is to determine the uncertainty limits in the calibration of antennas for EMC radiated emission measurements used throughout Europe. A set of six antennas - covering the frequency range 30 Mhz to 1 Ghz will be sent in turn to each of the sixteen participating laboratories. The facilities targeted are those that calibrate antennas, either for themselves or for others. The result of this work will be an improvement in the accuracy with which antennas can be calibrated throughout Europe and the achievement of mutual recognition of facilities available in member states.
