Intercomparison of measurements of magnetic losses in electrical sheet steel under rotating flux conditions

Objectif

Up to 40 % of the total magnetic loss in electrical machines is caused by rotating fields (rotation power loss). Designers of such machines would strongly benefit from the availability of reliable data for correct estimation of losses. The aim of this project is to compare the results of various methods used in different countries for the measurement of the magnetic losses of electrical steel sheet under the conditions of rotating flux in order to obtain information about their reproducibility and for the sound assessment of the physical principles on which they are based.

For this purpose some specimen will be made of a variety of materials and shaped so as to meet the requirements of the different magnetic circuits test setups and later circulated to the participating institutions.

The results of the project will be then made available in support of the preparation of a new standard.
