DEVELOPMENT AND CHARACTERIZATION OF CMC AND C/C COMPOSITES

Obiettivo

The goals of the proposed programme are to develop and characterize structural high performance fibre reinforced ceramics (CMC) and Carbon-Carbon (C/C) with antioxidation protection.
The goals of the programme are to develop and characterize structural high performance fibre reinforced ceramics (ceramic matrix composites (CMC)) and carbon carbon (C/C) with antioxidation protection.

Material la (2,5-D-C/C-INOX (silicon carbide):
The development of this C/C material with 3 fibre directions (2,5-D) and a functional gradient silicon carbide protection layer will be chosen for long time applications (greater than 30 hours) at temperatures up to 1550 C (fibre content, minimum 45%).

Material lb (2,5-D-C/C-INOX (aluminium nitride):
Development of material la, but with aluminium nitride protection for short time applications (20 minutes) at temperatures up to 1800 C.

Material 2 (3D-SiC/SiC-INOX(silicon carbide)):
Development of silicon carbide fibre reinforced silicon carbide composite with 3 fibre directions (orthogonal 3D) and a silicon carbide protection layer for long time applications (greater than 30 hours) at temperatures up to 1200 C.

Material 3 (2D-silicon carbide/glass ceramic):
Development of a laminated (2D) silicon carbide fibre reinforced glass ceramic composite without antioxidation protection for long time applications (greater than 30 hours) at temperatures up to 1100 C (fibre content, minimum 35%).

The work has lead to a better understanding, and provided fundamental knowledge, of the materials for further improvements, as well as defining possible areas or limitations, especially for structural applications at high temperatures.
The main exploitation will consist of improving manufacturing and analysis techniques.
Material 1a:
The development of this C/C material with three fibre directions (2.5D) and a SiC protection layer will be chosen for long time applications (>30 hours) at temperatures up to 1550 degrees C. Fibre content: min. 45%

Material 1b:
Development of material 1a, but with multilayer SiC/HfC protection for short time applications (20 minutes) at temperatures up to 1800 degrees C.

Material 2:
Development of carbon fibre reinforced SiC composite with three fibre directions (2.5D) for long time applications (>30 hours) at temperature up to 1200 degrees C.

Material 3:
Development of SiC fibre reinforced glass-ceramic composite for long time applications (>30 hours) at temperatures up to 1200 degrees C. Fibre content: min. 35%.
