RAPID ACQUISITION OF STRUCTURAL DATA TO OPTIMIZE THE DRILLING BLASTING LOADING SYSTEM IN OPEN CAST MINES

Cel

The objective is to develop a tool for the acquisition, formalization and computerization of certain data (fracture lines, structural limits, size distribution of the material blasted, shape of the heap, etc) necessary for good management of industrial processes such as drilling, blasting and loading.

The research will be carried out in 4 stages.
Firstly, a methodological study of the various techniques considered with trials at the 3 workings associated with the project. In particular, the practical details of data acquisition, storage and processing must be specified.
Secondly, correlation of the various data and modelling in 2 and 3 dimensions.
Thirdly, an attempt will be made to determine the conditions for practical application on site (human resources and equipment) and to evaluate the impact of this methodology on the extraction results by taking account of specific structural elements, impact on the definition of the blasting scheme, drilling operations, etc.
Finally, conclusions, synthesis of the results and the final report.

The research comprises the following phases.
Phase 1 is the rapid characterization of faces.
Phase 2 is the structural characterization of the ground. The main technique to be used will be ground probing radar, designed to provide data on the interior of the formation, monitoring of hidden elements behind the face, etc.
Phase 3 is processing of topographical data. A tool will be developed to enable the operators to superimpose various data (topography, fracture lines, position of the charge, etc).
Phase 4 is the development of tools for results evaluation. In order to assess the impact of the above techniques, Armines and Mining undertake to:
use image analysis to assess the quality of the material blasted (size distribution, shape of the heap, etc) and to study the relationships between mechanical and structural characteristics, blasting scheme and quality of the material won and characteristics of the material won and performance of downstream operations (loading, breaking, etc);
correlate the drilling parameters obtained with the characteristics of the ground in those workings which have probes equipped with loggers;
draw up blasting and drilling schemes which integrate the data collected;
and compare the results obtained with those of traditional methods.
