Public Awareness Campaign on the Labelling of Household Electrical Appliances

Objectif

The aim of the project was to provide information on the Labelling Directive, both to the appliance-buying public and to national manufacturers and importers, through a publicity campaign.
A publicity campaign was held to provide information on the Labelling Directive, with special emphasis on the appliance-buying public. As secondary targets, this campaign was directed at national manufacturers and importers, as well as retailers and exhibitors of household electrical appliances. Since the labelling process is to be implemented gradually,
starting with refrigerators, freezers and fridge-freezers, the proposed campaign covered this type of appliance. The project included the following advertising materials: TV advertisement, placards, posters, newspaper advertisements, prospectus, brochure, green line (telephone).
Labelling and the provision of information on the energy consumption levels of household appliances is not only a consumer defence measure and a way of promoting and guaranteeing energy efficiency, but also a positive contribution to the welfare of the environment.
The implementation of the EC-Labelling Directive in Portugal means that it is necessary to launch a series of actions capable of leading to improvements in the energy efficiency of household appliances currently available in Portugal. The provision of information on labelling, its importance and the intended results will work above all at the level of
consumer, manufacturer/supplier and retailer bahaviour in the future production and selection of this type of equipment.
