WORLD LONG TERM ENERGY SYSTEMS. a model and global outlook for european strategies

Obiettivo

The LETS project aims at the analysis of energy technology strategies for the reduction of energy consumption and associated Green House Gases emissions. It is developed as a dialog between a world long-term energy simulation model - the POLES model - and detailed sectoral analyses on a country by country basis.
Hypotheses produced by the sectoral analyses are introduced in the world model, which in turn produces a consistant international framework. Up to now, twelve main energy consuming coutries are dealt in detail in the model (the G7 coutries, 4 DCs and China), while other countries and regions are dealt with consistant but simplified models.

The goal of the association of the Energy Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Science to the LETS project will be to develop three final energy demand models for regions of the former USSR, i.e. Russia, Ukrainia and the other NIS.
In the past, the ERI-RAS has in fact developed high capabilities in energy data biases, energy demand modelling and policy analysis.

The work developed by ERI-RAS will encompass :
- developement on a spreadsheet software of the complete energy and associated exogenous variables for the three models ;
- analysis of the energy demand functions and calibration of the Autonomous Energy Efficiency Improvement and Price-Elasticity parameters ; - identification of the margins for increased energy efficiency improvement, in an "active energy technology policy" scenario cases.
