PROTECTIVE IMMUNE RESPONSE AGAINST AFRICAN SWINE FEVER VIRUS

Obiettivo

The objectives: the design of a strategy capable of including a protective immune response against African swine fever virus (ASFV) in domestic pigs.
Specific objectives are:
- Isolation of ASFV genes encoding proteins recognised by ASFV- neutralising antisera.
- Characterisation of the expression of the selected ASFV genes during the virus replicative cycle and the analysis of their possible involvement in virus morphogenesis.
- Assessment of the potential of selected ASFV proteins to induce a protective immune response against ASFV in domestic pigs.
- Assessment of the potential of vaccinia virus recombinants to elicit protective immune responses against ASFV infection.
- Characterisation of pig cell-mediated immune responses against ASFV infection, and the development of T-cell lines and clones recognising ASFV-infected cells.
- Development of a battery of new biological tools for the study of African swine fever and other diseases affecting domestic pigs.
