Objective Our aim is to study the reasons for the unreliability of man at work, whether it is caused by organization or human behaviour, and whether behaviour itself is influenced by specific personal factors or non-personal factors (working atmosphere, environment, management, relations, etc). The final aim of this work is of course to continue to raise safety levels in workings. In seeking to prevent industrial injuries the introduction of technical measures to reduce the risk inherent in any machine or equipment and/or the provision of training are not enough to ensure that a task will be completed safely.Specific organisational procedures or anomalies in human behaviour due to personal factors or an environmental influence may also be contributory factors. The object of this study was to gain a better understanding of these causes. Two complementary approaches were used:- a qualitative study conducted by a multi-disciplinary group- a statistical analysis of accident returns.
