Objectif Fire tests are to be carried out in cooperation with British and French research bodies in the fire galleries at VG (D), Cerchar (F) as well as at the HSE and BC (GB), and the results are to be compared with each other. The aim is to try to establish by statistical evaluation methods a rank correlation of the test results, e.g. of the fire propagation measured along the equipment over a distance. In this way it is hoped to standardize fire assessment criteria for mining equipment in the EC Member States.The results obtained are still insufficient for a reliable statistic evaluation which, however, is a prerequisite for harmonized regulations for tests in fire-testing roadways.In case of fire, underground equipment made of plastics and in great lengths, such as electric cables, must not propagate flames on their own over great distances. The best possibility of gaining reliable knowledge on the flame propagation properties of such equipments are full-scale tests in suited fire testing roadways underground. Such roadways are available in England (HSE), France (INERIS) and Germany (DMT/VG). Since in differently configured fire test roadways, the results with respect of flame propagation by equipments made from plastics are different as well, it is intended to find out about whether there is a statistic correlation between the results obtained in different fire-testing roadways. The establishment of such a correlation is the absolute prerequisite for a comparability of the different testing roadways.
