Cel The project will enable us to revitalize efforts to reduce the accident risk in the steel industry. Our study will be carried out in ARBED's steel plants. We propose to start with the ARBED Esch-Schifflange steelworks, which will be subdivided into six different sectors or zones. These zones represent a geographic area with specific risks, in which a group of workers are exposed to the same risks. The various zones of the steelworks are:- mixer- converter- ladle furnace- ladle metallurgy- continuous casting- relining of ladle and converter. The risks identified in these zones may be mechanical, electrical, ionizing, chemical or thermal. In addition, the risk in each zone will be pinpointed by analysing reported accidents at work and the injuries treated in the first-aid post.Consultation of the employees in the workplace will also contribute to understanding the dangers in the various zones. The work procedures, technical installations and protective measures will be adapted and modified in the various safety zones in the light of the results of the study. These measures will be accompanied by intensive information and consultation of the labour force in order to achieve better observance of safety recommendations and procedures and a consensus on wearing personal protective equipment.
