SUPPORT NETWORK FOR INTERACTIVE MULTI - MEDIA SERVICES FOR SME'S

Objectif

The main thrust of this project is to co-ordinate and support research networks currently developing interactive multimedia services for SME's in Eastern Europe. This will be achieved by combining the various activities of each partner's research programmes on multimedia, small enterprise and information systems.

The main objectives are (1) to establish a formal mechanism for co-operative research using "SME Technology Support Centres" in Eastern Europe (2) to establish an information network incorporating local authorities, training agencies and SME's (3) to facilitate technology transfer in the area of interactive multimedia (4) to set up a research study to assess the impact and potential of interactive multimedia technology on SME's.

The research study will have four main components:
1. to document and evaluate the suitability, content and delivery format of existing information services for small enterprises in Eastern Europe
2. to develop a small enterprise information model for a specific sector
3. to provide the necessary training to appropriate staff in the "SME Technology Support Centres" on the development of interactive multimedia systems to meet small enterprise needs
4. to conduct field studies into the effectiveness of such interactive multimedia systems for the delivery of small enterprise development services.

This project will involve a number of trans-national seminars and workshops providing training and exposure to current developments in multimedia technology. Other mechanisms will be used as appropriate to ensure the success of each of the research components - these will include short-term exchanges, visits and a formal reporting structure. A major component of this project's activities will be technology transfer specifically in the area of multi-media products.

This project provides a framework which will enable a number of research institutes, universities and SME's in Eastern & Western Europe to work in a collaborative manner. Strengthening these research interests is justified based on the current and growing significance of small enterprise to the East European economy.
