Adaptable Low-Cost Shop-Floor Control System

Objective

The aim of this project is to give Central and Eastern European universities the ability to help local industry - especially small and medium sized enterprises - introducing computer aids for shopfloor control. This will be achieved through joint development of an adaptable low-cost shopfloor control system. The requirements of this system are defined as:

user-oriented structure, with man as focus
de-centralized rather than hierarchical information concept
step-by-step extendibility (adaptable to various degrees of automation)
simple adaptability to changes in production installations
uniform system platform based on standards defined by ESPRIT project 9115 (OSACA)
open modular software system with the option of integrating user-specific functions

After an analysis and design phase, the system will be realised in two stages. In the first, production status will be available in a transparent form and with the option of scheduling production orders. In the second stage, a direct numerical control component (DNC) will be added.
