COMBINED CYCLE 303 MWE PLANT WITH A 265 MWE CIRCULATING FLUIDISED BED BOILER (CENTRALE DE PROVENCE) [PHASES 3 & 4]

Ziel

To conceive a combined cycle associating the world biggest circulating fluidized bed boiler (600 MWth) fed with mine raw products and a gas turbine the exhaust of which will be used for feed water heating.
The innovative part concern :
The extrapolation of acquired data on CFB generator of lower will lead to conceive the present generator under shapes perfectly proportional and with numbers of specific elements directly resulting from those necessary to CFB boilers of 125 MWe. The single boiler furnace will be of a record size for a CFB, 4 cyclones and 4 outside beds will complete this unit. The project will constitute the necessary technology stage towards the design of CFB generators much more important.
Besides in the present case, exhaust gas of turbine will replace the bleed steam which is used for feed water heating. This operation, which will increase the capacity, will be in fact implemented later. Now, reservations have been made and gas feeders sized in accordance to the final scheme.
The acceptance tests were carried out from 20 April to 7 May 1997. Prior to publication of the final test report, the following results can be given:

Steam output 700 t/h > 740 t/h (260 MWe)

(1) Minimum working point for which the steam temperatures at the turbine inlet and the superheated steam pressure are those for operation at rated load.

This project consists of the realization and setting into operation of a circulating fluidised bed boiler in the Provence power plant of Gardanne-Meyreuil in France, together with a gas turbine of which the exhaust gas sensible heat will be used for reheating boiler feed water, in replacement of the bleed steam of turbo-generator of 250 MWe which is assigned to it.
Main characteristics of boiler
Operating conditions
Steam output 700 t/h
Superheated steam pressure 163 bars
Superheated steam temperature 565 deg. C
Steam pressure to reheat 39,5 bars
Reheated steam pressure 36,5 bars
Reheated steam temperature 565 deg. C
Fuel input 149 t/h average
Up to now, a generator of such a size, operated in circulating fluidised bed does not exist. Extrapolation at this power level taking into account the proposers acquired experience leads the following outlines :
- a single furnace of yet not existing size, but including in its lower part two fluidization grates of a geometry comparable with the biggest existing boilers.
- four separation cyclones of such a diameter that we can determine with safety the performances.
- four external beds, two of which are assigned to superheating and reheating with adjustment of steam temperature by adjusting the flow of solids through them, and two others assigned to maintain the ideal temperature of the furnace whatever the boiler load in. Besides the project foresees a feed water heating in the boiler by means of a recovery boiler on the burning gases issued from the gas turbine. These gases take the place of the average and low pressure bleed steam from "Groupe 4" turbo-generator.
The characteristics of the thermal material put into operation are the following :
a) gas turbine
- gross output : 38,4 MWe
- auxiliary consumption : 0,12 MWe
- natural gas flow : 140 MWth
b) recovery boiler
-an economizer (low pressure) 28,1 MWth
- an economizer (high pressure) 36,1 MWth
