335 MWE GROSS (ISO CONDITIONS) IGCC PLANT PRENFLO COAL GASIFICATION PROCESS (PUERTOLLANO)

Objetivo

To demonstrate the high performance and flexibility of a 335 MWe gross (ISO condition) plant, integrating coal gasification with a combined cycle, using a wide range of fuels, and minimizing atmospheric emissions.
Critical areas of special interest are:
- Largest single gasifier unit.
- High Pressure air separation unit.
- Advance coal gas turbine.
- High integration Gasification/Combined Cycle
- Low atmospheric emissions.
- High efficiency.
- High availability.
- Wide range of fuels.
The following IGCC Plant data are expected :
These values have been confirmed during the tests in the pilot plant of Fursthenhausen with "mix coal" realised in April 92.
ELCOGAS SA is participated by 8 electrical utilities from 6 European countries and 3 of its main suppliers. The individual participation are as follows :
ENDESA (SPAIN) 30,52%
EDF (FRANCE) 29,13
IBERDROLA (SPAIN) 11,11
SEVILLANA DE ELECTRICIDAD (SPAIN) 7,40
HIDROLELECTRICA DEL CANTABRICO (SPAIN) 4,00
ELECTRICIDADE DE PORTUGAL 4,00
ENTE NAZIONALE DE ENERGIA ELECTRICA (ITA) 4,00
NATIONAL POWER PLC (GB) 4,00
BABCOCK & WILCOX ESPANOLA (SPAIN) 2,50
SIEMENS (GER) 2,34
KRUPP-KOPPERS (GER) 1,00
Plant is located in Puertollano, central Spain, an industrial town with a population of 55.000 and a coal mine, a thermal power station (220 Mwe) and a petrochemical complex. Basic fuel of the plant will be 50% coal from the mine and 50% coke from the refinery.
2600 tons/day ofcoal and coke are pulverized in two mills and dried in the coal preparation unit using heat from LP and IP steam. The PRENFLO GASIFICATION PROCESS is based on the entrained-flow principle, and has been designed by KRUPP-KOPPERS. Fuel dust is gasified with oxygen and steam, then quenched with dedusted warm gas, and cooled to 235 deg. C (445 deg. F) in a HP and IP waste heat boiler system.
Dust is removed from the raw gas in two ceramic candle filters, cleaned with nitrogen, and fly ashes are recycled to the burners of the gasifier. Halogens and alkalis are removed in a Venturi Scrubber with separator. The slag is discharged via a lock-hopper system.
Dedusted gas is treated to convert COS into H2S trough a catalytic process in the desulphurization unit. H2S is then removed by a MDEA solution (Methyldiethanolamine) and is sent to a Claus unit where elemental sulphur is produced.
The waste gas from the Claus unit is hydrogeneted and recycled to the COS hydrolisis unit. Clean gas composition is as follows : CO 60.51% (vol)
H2 22.08% (vol)
N2 + Ar 13.53% (vol)
CO2 3.87% (vol)
CH4 0.01% (vol)
H2S + COS 12 ppm
LHV = 10.03 Mj/m3 n.w.f.
Raw gas production is 4,300,000 Nm3/day.
The COMBINED CYCLE main elements are the GAS TURBINE, the HEAT RECOVERY STEAM GENERATOR (HRSG) and the STEAM TURBINE.
The clean coal gas, saturated and mixed with Nitrogen is burned in the two combustion chambers of the Gas Turbine, a SIEMENS model V.94.3 of 190 MW output (ISO), and the combustion gases are sent to the BABCOCK & WILCOX ESPANOLA designed Heat Recovery Steam Generator to produce steam for the SIEMENS steam turbine of 145 MW output (ISO). The gas turbine includes a compressor to deliver compressed air for the combustion chambers and for the Air Separation Unit, which sensible heat is used in clean gas saturation process, low pressure steam production and impure nitrogen preheating.
