Cel

Objectives
It was the aim of the SRETS project to complete the existing standards concerning the testing of package through the "random vibration" test. Furthermore should a test schedule be made.

State of progress
The damage that occurs during distribution were investigated and classified with respect to the fragility of the products.
A database with available measured raw data and analysed data was made. This data served a test spectra for a random vibration test schedules. These schedules were derived by using different testing methods. The test spectra was verified by field tests. A random vibration test was proposed for the European standardisation. The proposed test works with 3 test levels horizontal and vertical stresses. Furthermore a test schedule is proposed as a new sequence of the existing CEN standards including the new random vibration test. The sequence was optimised according to the distribution chain. Test values are proposed.
The results (test levels, test schedules, and data gained from the tests) are available to all partners of the project and to the public.

Background
Damage to goods in transit from the manufacturer to the consumer generate high costs. For the assessment and improvement of transport packaging standardised test procedures are performed. CEN published for each transportation load an individual test excluding random vibration. Until now a random vibration test method and sequences depending on the nature of the transportation are missing in Europe.
Workprogramme
The following tasks were performed:
- Examination of the correlation between damages and products.
- Classification of the products by means of fragility.
- Creation of a database with measured and analysed data.
- Definition of mechanic-dynamic transporting tests.
- Verification of these tests.
- Collection of the results in a test schedule.
- Standardisation suggestions.
