Stability Monitoring of BCR Certified Reference Materials

Ziel

The prime objective of the proposed study is to provide the Commission with information on the long-term stability of the Biomedical, Food and Feed and Environmental Certified Reference Materials (CRM's) prescribed in Tables 1, 2 and 3 in the paper "Supporting document for subject on stability studies for the already certified environmental, biomedical and food reference materials". Although these CRM's have been produced using EU MAT Certification Guidelines, the organic and potentially labile nature of the CRM matrix and/or analyte mean that long-term stability must be monitored if certification values are to be meaningful.
In the majority of cases these CRM's are unique; state of the art methods have been used in their production and certification, but little or no information is available on their long-term stability under 'real' storage conditions, as opposed to within laboratory storage trials.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the stability of the prescribed CRM's over a year period and this will be achieved by:
- 4 partners who have extensive experience of the production of these CRM's;
- the use of validated and traceable methods of analysis;
- the use of methods which show long-term reproducibility;
- determination of the certified property at intervals already prescribed by the Commission .
Measurable objectives will be stability data for all 31 of the CRM's specified by the Commission.
The production and the promotion of the widespread use of CRM's is at the heart of the Standards, Measurements and Testing Programme, therefore the long-term validity of the certified properties is of fundamental importance. It follows therefore that this proposed study is fully compliant with the needs, objectives and priorities of the programme.
