Low-energy steel house for cold climates

Objective

The main objective of this project is to demonstrate by experimental buildings that steel can be used economically in low-energy housing in a cold climate using previously developed sections, components and solutions. The objective is to reduce the costs of heating energy in the experimental houses by about 50 % compared with conventionally constructed houses. The results of this demonstration project will be that: - two experimental low-energy steel houses will be constructed (one with prefabricated components and the other with pre-cut sections); - heating energy requirements for these houses will be of the order of 50 % compared with conventional housing; - suitability for commercial production of certain components will be tested in practice; - design and construction guidelines will be produced for architects, engineers
