Learning Efficient Energy Use: A Computer Based Educational Package for 13-15 years old Children

Objectif

The objective of the project is the development of a multimedia computer based educational package addressed to 13-15 years old children. The aim of this package will be to support children in the comprehension of the concept of energy use and the creation of awareness on the need for energy conservation and the subsequent environmental effects, as well as the learning of fundamental practices for saving energy. The use of the educational package is expected to help significantly in the shaping of the energy behaviour of the young students. Despite the small decisive role of children of that age in regard with energy use, the formulation of the proper energy behaviour at this early stage is expected to follow them during their life and therefore keep them always aware and cautious. A side effect, which should not be neglected, is also the effect that properly informed children can exercise to their environment, (mainly their family) concerning energy conservation.

The Educational Package, will comprise:
A highly interactive, Multimedia Computer Based Tutorial (MCBT) that will help students to comprehend the concept of energy use, of energy conservation and of the interaction between energy use and the environment. The MCBT will provide information for all the main aspects of supply, conversion, transmission and end use of energy, with emphasis on energy efficient technologies and renewables.
A Computer Game that will help its young players elaborate on the knowledge introduced through the tutorial. The game will also be self instructive, so that the children will need no additional help for using it. It will concentrate on the energy day life of the students and to effects of an improved behaviour concerning efficient use of energy.
A printed Tutor's Guide, that will be addressed to the children's tutors.
A Three Fold Brochure addressed to the children that will emphasise on the main points of the material introduced through the MCBT.
