PV POWERED BANANA TREATMENT PROCESS IN GUADELOUPE

Objetivo

To improve the quality of the Guadeloupe bananas by supplying electricity to the remote banana farms, for the operation of washing tunnels and fungicide treatment.

A total of 11 PV powered banana treatment plants will be installed in Guadeloupe. Nine of the plants will be fitted with PV generators rated at 1960 Wp and two with PV generators rated at 2450 Wp, giving a total installed PV power of 26.5 Wp. The PV electricity will be used to power pumps for the circulation of fungicide fluid, for lighting and for motors to drive conveyor belts. The systems will be installed on sites owned by small farmers, which are located away from the mains grid. The main objective is to permit small farmers to compete with the large producers by ensuring that their products are properly treated and therefore of the same quality.
