Objectif The purpose of this project is to carry out the remote dismantling with low occupational doses of the WAGR reactor core, and pressure vessel. The work will be managed on a commercial basis by a competitively appointed prime-contractor. Dismantling work undertaken by this project will commence with removal of operational waste stored in the reactor channels, removal of reactor standpipe components, removal of the reactor hot-box and removal of the reactor loop tube assemblies. Operations to remove these elements of the reactor internals will be undertaken with the use of innovative dismantling techniques as: - computer controlled Remote Dismantling Machine using stereoscopic television cameras to assist in the dismantling process; - video-gamma-camera to identify and sort the most radioactive materials; - operators training on virtual scenes; - ultra-violet laser to decontaminate vital parts of the Machine before maintenance; - acoustic-cleaning of electrostatic pre-filters; - inactive tests of a Stabilized Transport System carrying a 6-axes arm for helping in critical phases like handling small wastes. Each group of reactor assemblies have been classified in a proposed project programme as individual campaign. Completion of each campaign is a measured objective prior to proceeding with the following campaign. A summary programme is submitted to illustrate the milestones. Project deliverables will be classified as COMMERCIAL-UKAEA-CEA-GD, which signifies approval from UKAEA and CEA before any information is made public. This proposal complies with the workplan as described in paragraph C.4.1 since the project is intended to be directly involved in the dismantling of reactor components in advance of dismantling the reactor pressure vessel. Therefore the innovative techniques developed for these processes will assist in formulating optimum dismantling strategies in support of other reactor decommissioning projects.
