Consistency of behaviour in social dilemmas and bargaining games: an experimental economics and economic psychological approach

Objective

Both in experimental economics and in economic psychology, experiments have been conducted on different types of social dilemmas and bargaining games. However, the behavioural consistency across experimental tasks is a neglected research field, although it seems to be highly relevant for the generalization of the experimental results to behaviour in the outside world.

This project aims at studying behaviour across a variety of experimental tasks and a variety of participants in the experiments (e.g. businessmen, managers, entrepreneurs, employees, and students). The experimental tasks will vary according to the pay-off associated with the behaviour. The types of games to be included are social dilemmas, bargaining games, rent-seeking games and asymmetric information games, whether or not in the context of practical situations such as straight pay-off matrices or pay-offs embedded in business situations or political contexts.

The research methodology follows the method of computerized experiments to obtain the data concerned. The research is both fundamental and applied. This means that fundamental issues concerning the consistency of behaviour are considered. Also, the realistic context of some experiments will add to the practical relevance of the conclusions.
