Research on the cultural trends crossing east and west Eurasia during the formation of European cultures in prehistory

Objectif

This project concerns the cultural trends that have crossed east and west Eurasia during the formation of European cultures in prehistory and early historic times. The research will comprise new field excavations in Moldova, Ukraine (Crimea) and Russia (Siberia); studies of cultural remains from different sites in these areas; and studies of the transregional relationships through the north Eurasian plains.

The main aims of the project concern identification of the formation processes of European cultural entities, the movements of people from Central Asia to east and west Europe, and the revision of the chronology of these phenomena.

The means used for this project will be the exchange of data between eastern and western teams involved in the research; the exchange of methodology; collaboration on field excavations; joint research work on old and new archaeological materials from the different sites; and the preparation of scientific articles and general publications (monographs) by the different research teams in order to make a historical synthesis of both regions (east and west Europe).
