Objective The objectives of this project is to carry out systematically precision measurements of magnetic, magneto-transport, magneto-optical properties, together with a study of resistive properties and magnetic resonance for a broad range of modern materials in high and ultra-high magnetic fields. All substances chosen will be explored in the following manner: first, in fields up to 60 T with a pulse duration of about 10 milliseconds in Toulouse and at the Kurchatov Institute in Moscow; second, in Berlin, in fields up to 200 T; and, finally, in extremely short, of about 1 microsecond, multi-megagauss fields, up to 1000 T at Arzamas. Sample preparation and their initial testing will be done mostly at Leuven and Moscow. Collaboration with the groups in Moscow is important for the theoretical interpretation of the observed phenomena. The Leuven group and the Kurchatov Institute will manage this part of the project. The main topics of the research programme are as follows: quantum phenomena and phase transitions in highly anisotropic materials (magnetic, magneto-optical, resistive and magnetic resonance experiments, theoretical considerations); band structure and magneto-oscillations of electron system in low-dimensional semiconductors (cyclotron resonance, galvanomagnetic and magneto-optical research); high-Tc superconductivity (theory and experiments, mainly including magnetisation, resistivity and impedance measurements); and development of technology for generation of megagauss and multi-megagauss magnetic fields Programme(s) IC-INTAS - International Association for the promotion of cooperation with scientists from the independent states of the former Soviet Union (INTAS), 1993- Topic(s) 15 - Condensed Matter Physics Call for proposal Data not available Funding Scheme Data not available Coordinator Katholieke Universiteit Leuven EU contribution No data Address Celestijnenlaan 200 D 3001 Heverlee - Leuven Belgium See on map Total cost No data Participants (5) Sort alphabetically Sort by EU Contribution Expand all Collapse all Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique France EU contribution No data Address 31077 Toulouse See on map Total cost No data Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin Germany EU contribution No data Address 10115 Berlin See on map Total cost No data Institute of Experimental Physics Russia EU contribution No data Address 607200 Arsamas 16 See on map Total cost No data Russian Academy of Sciences Russia EU contribution No data Address 117942 Moscow See on map Total cost No data Russian Research Centre I.V.
