The role of peroxo-metal complexes in oxidations related to synthetically, environmentally and biologically relevant processes

Objectif

The main objective of this research project is to elucidate the nature and structure of the intermediates involved in selected oxidizing systems based on peroxides (hydrogen peroxide or alkyl hydroperoxides) and transition metal ions in their highest oxidation state (i.e. Ti(IV), V(V), Cr(VI), Mo(VI), W(VI)). The mechanism of some processes will also be investigated.

The reactivity of a given couple Metal/peroxide is a function of the nature of the metal and of the peroxide, as well as of the ligands. Variation of the reactivity can be detected as a function both of the co-ordination sphere and of the solvation sphere. Appropriate correlations among spectroscopic and structural parameters with kinetic data determined in model reactions will be searched in order to understand and possibly predict the reactivity of peroxo-metal complexes on the basis of their structure.

The oxidation of unreactive substrates could be then achieved by carefully designing the structure of peroxo-metal species.
