Protein-protein interaction in microemulsions from basic knowledge to applications

Ziel

The project is based on enzymology in non-conventional media, particularly in microemulsions. The fact is that microemulsions - actually the droplet size of microemulsions - are able to control the association and dissociation of macromolecules (fex. formation of trypsin-trypsin inhibitor complex, disaggregation of multimeric proteins), that will study model systems in different microemulsions in order to get an insight into this phenomenon.

Such model systems include lectin/protein, protease/protease inhibitor and antibody/antigen (enzyme). In parallel, this particular feature of microemulsions will be combined with their extractive properties in order to develop a technique for the extraction of proteins in solution based on molecular recognition phenomena: specific proteins would bind to an antibody attached to the microemulsion interface and extracted into the microemulsion. The driving force for the transfer of the protein from the aqueous phase to the microemulsion would be the molecular recognition between the protein and the microemulsion-attached antibody.
