Pan-European scientific network for computer-aided process engineering

Objective

The working party on computer-aided process engineering of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering comprises representatives of national member societies of the Federation. For more than 25 years the working party has promoted the use of computers in chemical and process engineering through annual international conferences and other activities. The conference series has recently been relaunched under the title ESCAPE (European Symposium on Computer-Aided Process Engineering) with enhanced international responsibility and strengthened identity. Societies from the NIS have joined the European Federation of Chemical Engineering and NIS representatives are participating in the working party.

In order to promote further co-operation a joint workshop was planned in Moscow in 1993 between west European working party members and NIS representatives to discuss future scientific co-operation in the field covered by the working party. Due to circumstances in Moscow the date of the workshop had to be postponed but members of the working party continue to promote further co-operation with NIS colleagues.

For this purpose a co-operative programme of information exchange has been started with support for: exchange visits to west European universities and research institutes by young NIS scientists; attendance at the working party's annual ESCAPE conference by NIS participants (the next ESCAPE conference will take place in Bled, Slovenia); attendance at the European Forum for Computer-Aided Process Engineering Research (the next forum will be held in Edinburgh); participation in the EURECHA society for exchange of computer software for chemical engineering.
