Development of high-power broad bandwith superluminescent light-emitting diodes for spectral ranges 800 nm, 1300 nm and 1500 nm for high-performance fibre-optic sensors

Objectif

The aim of this project is to research and develop a new class of highly effective, high-power, very wide band spectral devices, namely quantum well super-luminescent light-emitted diodes (SLDs) for high-performance fibre-optic sensors (gyros, white light interferometers and multiplexed sensors, OTDR sensors). During the work quantum well (QW) SLDs on substrates of AlGaAs and InGaAsP for spectral ranges 800nm, 1300nm and 1500nm, will be developed, optimized and then tested in prototype fibre-optic gyros and fibre-optic sensors for absolute measurands. The main physical phenomena affecting the QWSLD performance such as QW spectral gain, spontaneous emission rate, internal losses, Auger and other non-radiative recombinations rates will be studied.

This project is a step towards integrating Russian hi-tec research and manufacturing centres into the European science and commercial market.
