Durability evaluation and prediction of polymer composites and adhesive joints in the space environment by subcritical crack growth approach

Objectif

The objectives of this project are to develop a computing methodology, experimental procedures, techniques and equipment for evaluation and prediction of durability of polymer/fibre composites and adhesive joints in a space environment. This should be acheived by using subcritical interlaminar crack growth velocity data, the time - temperature superposition principle and the kinetic theory of failure.

The project will include: the development, engineering and testing of measuring cells for subcritical crack growth kinetics evaluation in static and dynamic loading conditions; microdielectrical and mechanical sensors for in situ control of stress -strain states and transformations of the structural properties of polymer composites and adhesive joints in different environments; and testing the equipment and procedures in simulated and real space environments on a space station.
