Use of mycelium fermentation by-product, for recovering heavy metals from industrial effluents

Objective

To set up a process for upgrading the biological sludge issued from fermentation industries using mycelium cultures for producing enzymes, antibiotics, citric acid or vitamins. The granulates issued from drying of these sludge at low temperature could, in case of success of the project, be used for recovering and recycling metals from industrial effluents. According to their low productions cost, they could challenge on exchange resins and electrolytic performant but too expensive for this industrial application.

- To study the fixation ability of the granulates for metals contained in zinc mettalurgy effluents.
- To design a fluidized bed reactor for a continuous on-line processing of the effluents.
- To assess the metals recovery yields using synthetic effluents.
- To define the duration of utilisation of these granulates, the processus of regeneration of their adsorption capacities and of recovery of the adsorbed metals.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
