Problems in coordination chemistry of chalcogenide cluster complexes of transition metals

Objective

The proposal focuses on the chemistry of chalcogenide cluster complexes of transition elements, where the metal-chalcogenide cores are typically coordinated to inorganic acido ligands or ligands used in organometallic chemistry.
The main goals are the further development of cluster chemistry in terms of chemical synthesis/ design of less studied compounds, the identification of common trends concerning the properties of clusters based on an investigations of structure and chemical reactivity. A number of new metal-chalcogenide aqua ions will be synthesised and reactivities (stitution, heterometal addition, chalcogen transfer and electron-transfer redox reactions) will be studied in detail. Research of the mono- and binuclear transition metal complexes with diorganyldichalcogen R2E2 (E = S, Se, Te) terminal or bridge ligands will provide an opportunity to synthesise new clusters with a mixed-metal framework and chalcogen-containing ligands. Investigations on structures and magnetic properties will provide a basis for an understanding of the influence of metal-chalcogen and metal-metal bonding on magnetic interactions, and finally the use of these clusters as lead-in compounds for new inorganic metal-chalcogen materials obtained by controlled thermal modification.
As a result of experimental work carried out fundamental principles concerning the structures and chemical design of chalcogenide cluster compounds of transition metals will be identified.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
