Advanced management and technology training for the European aquaculture sector

Objective

OBJECTIVES
The aquaculture industry has experienced phenomenal growth over the past 10 to 15 years. Its future growth potential is, however, becoming increasingly dependent on the skilful management of stock and the ambient environment. The industry must adapt to environmental protection regulations, the requirements of other water users and to co-existence with industry, agriculture and tourism. At the same time it must continue to implement quality assurance measures and comply with EC health requirements. This collective training project will provide an opportunity to respond to these challenges at a transnational level in co-operation with the university sector. It will facilitate the active dissemination of knowledge, expertise, technologies and skills to a wide target audience, and will promote the application of research and development results in the form of commercial practices which will boost growth, efficiency and competitiveness in this important European industry.

ACTIVITIES
Seven short training courses will be developed in conjunction with university and industrial partners. The partnership will establish streamlined procedures for the administration, implementation, monitoring, control, evaluation and dissemination of the results of the training programme. It will also develop a marketing strategy to ensure that maximum benefits accrue to the industry as a result of the implementation of this project.

PRODUCTS
The project will produce seven training courses relating to the development of core competencies and multidisciplinary skills in the field of aquaculture.
