TransEuropean access and mobility for people with disabilities

Objective

TEAM is a direct response to the needs of people with disabilities in Europe, of whom there are estimated to be 50 million (10% of the population). Those who have disabilities face a wide range of obstacles preventing full social and economic integration. Education, training and awareness-raising remain key determining factors in obtaining equal opportunities, and there is an important need for the training of those involved with people who are the subject of social and economic marginalisation.

TEAM's aim is develop a training qualification for professionals who advise people with disabilities about vocational opportunities, the applicability of assistive technologies, transferable support mechanisms and availability of learning materials. The following activities will be undertaken :

-comparative analysis of in-service training for staff working to support people with disabilities in four member states;
-adaptation of existing training courses and development of new training modules where gaps in provision are identified;
-development of training qualifications in disability awareness, assessment skills and the appropriate use of new technologies;
-production of guidance packs for use by training providers, vocational guidance services and voluntary agencies.

The guidance packs will be available in English, French and Spanish and alternative media (i.e. Braille, tape, large print). The partners will also published papers in English, French and Spanish professional and educational journals.

Impact
TEAM will combat social exclusion by promoting access to training and employment opportunities for those at a disadvantage in the labour market.
