Craft workers in the historical monument/building preservation sector

Obiettivo

The level of initial vocational training in the construction sector is a long way behind the increasing needs and concerns of preserving the existing culture of buildings. Traditional craft-worker training does not include any systematic content regarding the preservation of buildings or historical monuments. The aim of this project is to develop modules on technologies for preserving buildings. The proposed development of a continuing training programme entitled "Craft-workers in the historical monument/building preservation sector" is directed at various target groups in the partner countries involved, i.e. apprentices, school-leavers with a higher school-leaving certificate, students, instructors, craft-workers and employers. Involved in the project are instructors from craft and trade companies in the construction industry as well as representatives of specialist institutions and craft and trade organisations. A further objective is to establish "Historical monument and building preservation" as an integral part of the vocational training systems in the countries taking part in the project.

The media units to be used for the individual topics will be developed by the project partners with the support and assistance of training experts from vocational schools and companies, after which they will be tested in practice and translated into the national languages of the project partners. Selection of the topics will be discussed and co-ordinated between the project partners. The criteria for selection will be to cover the greatest possible intersection of transnational training content while at the same time taking account of the main emphases of the protection of historical monuments specific to the individual countries involved. After development and testing, the media units (multi-lingual printed and AV media) are then to be published throughout the EU in trade journals, particularly in the construction industry, thus making them available for the initial and continuing training of the target groups referred to above.

Impact
The project will promote the construction crafts and trades sector at European level by developing a specific further-training module for building preservation, involving a wide variety of players.
