Interactive training sequences for industrial mechanic: production planning and control (CBT program in conjunction with innovative guidance texts)

Objective

Commercial learning content is becoming increasingly important in the industrial-technical vocational training process. This project is directed at young Europeans undergoing vocational training in the technical metal-processing sector and is designed to enable them to acquire an additional qualification in the field of production planning and control. This objective is to be achieved by means of a computer-aided interactive learning program as well as self-learning material based on guidance-texts.

The computer program will enable the trainees to gain an insight into the various departments of a factory. In addition, they will be taught about production planning and control by means of guidance texts using the model of a diesel locomotive to be designed by themselves. The guidance texts will be supplemented by materials such as drawings, work schedules, as well as list of parts and tools, which can also be called up, modified and printed out using a second part of the computer program as required. The practically-oriented concept is designed to enable the young people to solve problems independently. This will be consolidated by means of the planning and analysis of work processes as well as solving tasks in the context of teamwork. This approach is suitable for young people undergoing basic or specialist vocational training for the metal industry as it combines all the skills required in the area of metal-processing, supplemented by important commercial elements. The computer program will be available in English on a CD-Rom, while the guidance texts and other materials will be published in German and English. The project picks up on the results of a PETRA project.

Impact
The project promotes the incorporation of new learning content into vocational training for the technical metal-processing sector and conveys this content via multimedia learning programs. This promotes increased dissemination and application of multimedia self-learning products at European level.
