New technologies applied to town and country planning, the environment and agriculture

Cel

As in other areas of town and country planning, new geo-information systems and concepts such as tele-detection represent modern useful decision-support tools for town and country planners, although they are not yet widely used in rural planning. Extensive training programmes have therefore been organised to enable users to master these techniques. However, this training remains confined to specialist centres and target groups. For this reason the project partners intend to:
- open tele-detection training to a wider public through more varied training structures;
- structure training possibilities around shared concepts/content to ensure widest possible access to this programme.

The project will ultimately target people undertaking vocational training in agriculture, forestry and the environment. Instructors will constitute an intermediary strategic target group. The partners will define a common coherent core of information which can be used selectively according to the different national or local training contexts (institutions, trainees' previous experience, specific thematic objectives) in which the relevant instructors are operating. They will then design a coherent set of multimedia education modules suitable for self-study purposes. The project will also develop guided case-studies that can be used both in traditional structures and for individual training.

Impact
This project will offer wider access to training on tele-detection, a modern decision-making tool useful to planners. It will offer vocational trainees in the agricultural, forestry and environment sectors an opportunity to gain new IT qualifications, thus improving their career prospects.
