Objective
Lack of appropriate management skills and easily accessible, low cost, business information are the major reasons for the failure of small businesses. Most training programmes and materials are developed out of large company backgrounds and go beyond the immediate needs of the owner manager, whilst business information provided by professional specialists is often priced beyond the financial means of the SME.
The aim of this project is therefore to help SMEs identify their business needs (i.e. the business tasks/projects which they must take on) and analyse their self-learning needs, by making trained 'business coaches' available to work with them on these matters. These advisers will focus on immediate issues facing owner-managers and demonstrate how legal, financial, marketing, personnel and planning problems can be solved using on-line support. Competencies will also be assessed against national standards.
Impact
The project will stimulate and support lifelong vocational learning internal to SMEs to enable them to survive and prosper in rapidly changing technological and market environments.
