Autism specific interactive learning software packages

Objetivo

The use of information technology for people with autism has received growing attention since the mid-80s and has more recently been the focus of conferences in Paris and Nice. Research in this area suggests that Computer Assisted Learning (CAL) can be used not only in teaching specific skills, but also to enhance cognitive development and the ability to think independently. The overwhelming opinion of those who are beginning to use CAL for those people with autism is that progress is currently hampered by the lack of availability of specific software for this group of users.

This project will produce a marketable computer-based software product that is capable of being used throughout Europe by all those suffering from autism to assist them in their education and learning environments. The software will contain diverse learning situations and tasks which can be precisely configured at the local level by teachers to suit individual learners.

Impact
The project will greatly enhance the training opportunities of people with autism and have a consequent impact on the independence of this group in society.
