ACOUSTIC CONTINUOUS STRAPPED-ON SOLID FUEL MONITOR-CLAMPON SFM

Cel

The ultimate aim of the project is to develop a ClampOn Solid Fuel Monitor, enabling optimisation of the combustion process in pulverised coal fired boilers.
The passive acoustic methodology used by ClampOn should give better results on quantifying the amount of variation and fluctuation of pulverised coal in a fuel flow, due to higher particle intensity and higher velocity of the flow.
Pre-project trials at coal fired thermal power plants have proven that the practical conditions for a succesful development are also present. The main technological problem that has to be overcome is the carrying out of necessary trials and analyses to determine the calibration curve of the equipment.
The goal of this demonstration project is to :
- develop a technology for continuous measurements of the amount of pulverised coal in a fuel stream, and,
- develop systems for using these measurements to optimise the combustion process of pulverized coal fired boilers.
No sensors will be tested/evaluated during springtime 1998.
This will be the worlds first continuous measurements of pulverised coal fuel flow in pipelines. Likewise it will be the worlds first non-intrusive technology for these kind of measurements. The development will be based on adapting existing technology for measuring the content of sand-dust in a well-flow of natural gas. Equipment for such measurements is developed by the Norwegian firm ClampOn AS, and has already a proven track record as a result of its work with major oil companies throughout the world.
