Cel
The development of a new large passenger aircraft with two or even three deck configuration requires new ways in defining passenger safety. As one major goal, fire safety has to be improved to enhance today's level of safety. A next generation fire suppression system has to be environmentally "clean", i.e. after the ban of the halos as first choice extinguishing agent for the last 30 years a new agent must not harm neither the passenger nor the atmosphere. A water mist/nitrogen system, which is a major point of interest in this project, is a promising and environmentally friendly alternative. Higher safety standards require a next generation fire detection system to assure early and reliable fire/smoke warning and an optimal interaction between detection and suppression. Visualisation is a secondary device to determine the fire and the non-fire status inside inaccessible areas.
