Cable analysis of sheath integrity by measurement of inducted and reflected signals

Objetivo

Maintenance of buried cables containing low voltage lines used for telephone, data transmission, internet... is urgently carried out as soon as defaults have appeared in the traffic. It has been recently demonstrated that damages in integrity of the cable sheath were causing degradation of the lines and so traffic perturbation. The research will allow predictive analysis of the cable sheath integrity before internal lines are affected. The project is carried out by terms, main proposer and coordinator, with balteau-test, one or two other SME, two research centers. The objectives of the project are: identify methods to localize precisely buried cables and their defaults. Develop and test a prototype equipment. The project is scheduled on two years: numerical modelisation and simulation of cables and signals. Antennas and receivers research. Processing of the detected signal. Development of algorithms. Design and manufacturing of prototype equipment. Tests and field experimentation. The goal is to decrease maintenance costs of buried cables by 20%, and traffic perturbation by 50%, using this new equipment.
