In vivo research on possible health effects related to mobile telephones and base stations (carcinogenicity studies in rodents)

Objective

PERFORM-A will provide research results on possible carcinogenic and co-carcinogenic effects of radio frequency (RF) in animal models. Two NTP-type carcinogen city studies will be conducted in both sexes of mice and rats, exposed to both 900 MHz GSM and 1800 MHz DCS signals. Possible co-carcinogenic effects of RF will be re-evaluated with a bioassay on DMBA initiated mammary tumours in rats and with a replication of the lymphoma tumour bioassay in Eu-PIM 1 transgenic mice a dose response, and use as exposure agents signals which best represent current cellular communication based RF. The results will support the health hazard assessment of the long-term use of cellular telephones and base stations.
