Objective An alternative concept for mitigation of hydrogen in the containment shall be developed. The concept focuses on catalytic coated surfaces of the thermal insulation of the primary system components. A first estimate shows that there are sufficient insulation surfaces to achieve adequate recombination rates. As compared to the installation of catalytic recombiner modules, physical considerations indicate potentials for a higher safety and better economic conditions of the alternative concept. The project shall combine experimental work, numerical simulation and safety/cost/benefit analysis to establish the concept as a product for the nuclear technology market.
