Cel ECON-GI will study the possibilities of making available digital geographic data of the public sector by the development and testing of new partnerships between public administration and private commercial companies. This preparatory action comprises two main research areas:Area 1: Finding ways to support public data owners establishing their own decentralised meta information systems. This includes the following main tasks:- Testing and pilot-wise implementation of simple documentation tools for digital geographic data. In order to publish the metadata after a compatible data model, a concept for the setting up of an own web portal for each data owner need to be elaborated.- Assessing the different possibilities of commercial use of the strategy, inclusion of (commercial) third party assistance in the establishment and maintenance of the decentralised meta information system.Area 2: Bringing together, processing and making accessible the different geo-meta bases for the user Community in Saar-Lor-Lux; conception of a meta search engine or a web crawler which aims at analysing geo metadata bases, finding ways to create multilingual meta information systems, assessment of different concepts for the economic management of the search engine and other developed services.
