Gasoline engine turbo-charging -advanced gasoline powertrain for reduced fuel consumption and co2 emissions

Cel

The main goal is the reduction of fuel consumption CO2 emission of passenger cars with gasoline engines by decreasing the engine displacement and turbo charging. For high customer acceptance and so help to reduce CO2 emission of European Vehicle fleet, the basic problem of these engines have to be solved with acceptable extra costs : insufficient low end torque and starting performance, poor efficiency at part load. Therefore a novel engine cycle has to be developed to avoid knocking combustion and increase the compression ratio (input from Get Engine). New developed turbochargers with variable compressor/turbine and the assessment of an electrically assisted turbocharger will solve the low end torque problem (input from GET Turbo). The integration of these new technologies and other known technologies to a complete power train in typical sizes will result in a decrease of cO2 emission by 30% in the MVEG cycle.
