European network on the development of artificial nucleases

Cel

One of the main future strengths of Chemistry lays its application to biology, and it is essential for Europe to be able to call on a strong nucleus of trained personnel capable of operating comfortably in this interdisciplinary area. The Network will operate in precisely this area. ENDEVAN will bring together leading groups in the several central relevant areas to train young scientists to think and work across the boundaries of conventional disciplines. Industry has a special need for researchers witch receive will be the acquisition of new skills by working in the laboratories of Network members. The amin formal Training Programmes will be based on regular Network Meetings and the specialised "workshops”, which will offer lecture presentations and practical training in specialist areas of Network activity. Young researchers will be expected to present their own work regularly in an informal but professional way, thus acquiring this essential skill as an integral part of a their training. A third activity, which will be made available to all young researchers appointed within the Network, is an exchange period spent working on Network research in the laboratory of another member. This is one of the most efficient and natural ways of inculcating new skills.
